22 Indian Fishermen Released from Karachi’s Landhi Jail

KARACHI: Pakistan has released 22 Indian fishermen from Karachi's Landhi District Jail after the completion of their prison duration.

The fishermen released on Thursday, are being transported under official supervision via bus, arranged by the Edhi Foundation, to Lahore. From there, they will cross into India through the Wagah border.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Landhi Jail, Arshad Shah, among the 22 released fishermen, three are Muslims and 19 are Hindus. These fishermen were arrested by Pakistani authorities over the past two and a half to three years for illegally fishing in Pakistan’s territorial waters. They had completed their court-awarded sentences.

Arshad Shah stated that the fishermen were released were provided with financial assistance along with gifts before their departure.

He also revealed that 198 more Indian fishermen are still serving their sentences in Malir District Jail.
